When you buy a bottle for a while, If you hear a rattling noise in your stainless steel s’well bottle when you shaking it, it can be one of two reasons:
- In order to retain good vacuum insulation of stainless steel bottle for years, it needs to weld a component part named “getter” inside the double wall vacuum space, usually on the bottom area, when the welding is poor, it will cause the small piece “getter” come off and freely inside the double walls of stainless steel s’well bottle, then you can hear a rattling noise.
- There’s a hole on the bottom usually where manufacturer factory can start to produce vacuum insulated space between the double walls of stainless steel bottle during the production, after vacuum process, it needs a material “sealant” to seal the hole then curing, when the sealant broken then it will moving freely at the base of your bottle. You can continue to use your bottle normally, it is still completely safe.
Both of these components have their respective functions of the stainless steel bottle. A loose【getter】will not affect the insulation properties of the bottle immediately but the vacuum insulation will going poor slowly and disappear after couple months, you will feel cold or hot when touching the outer wall of the bottle and have condensation issue; The broken 【sealant】piece of it won’t affect vacuum insulation of stainless steel insulated bottle, except for it broken and come off from the bottle completely to cause the vacuum insulated space disappear.
To check if the vacuum insulated space is still effective, fill with hot water then touch it after couple mins, it is still ok if touching no warm feeling, or fill with ice cold water then touch it after couple mins, it is still ok if no condensation issue.
